Safety & Considerations
Flibanserin (as the FDA-approved product) carries a boxed warning for severe hypotension and syncope when combined with alcohol. Current FDA labeling permits one to two standard alcoholic drinks if taken at least 2 hours before dosing, but the dose should be skipped entirely after three or more drinks in an evening — patients should follow their physician's specific guidance rather than assuming any amount is automatically safe. Do not take if you have liver impairment or are taking certain other medications (CYP3A4 inhibitors) without physician review. Effects build gradually over several weeks; this is not a rapid-onset or “as-needed” product. The compounded oxytocin component is used off-label for this indication and its evidence base is limited.
